Tips to Completely Set Up Your Profile to Stand Out
Congratulations for taking the bold step to sign up on MonkeyToHire. You’re a step closer to getting employed even if you’re a young IT graduate with no experience. Creating an account is just one step. You need to set up your profile to stand out in order to get job offers. Setting up your profile is not about filling in your name and professional job title. There are a lot of things to consider, and in this blog post, we will discuss the important steps you need to take to set up your profile completely to stand out from your competition.
-
Provide your legal names
One mistake new graduates make when applying for jobs online is using nicknames in their profiles. This is totally wrong. It’s advised you use your real names as it appears on your governmental identity card. When applying for jobs online, treat it like you’re visiting a large organization’s HR office for interviews. Provide accurate and complete information.
-
Education
If you’re applying for jobs online, you have to fill your education level, and you have to be honest with it. As with most people, we believe you have a BSc certificate, and this is what you should add in the “Education” field if you don’t have a higher degree like a PhD. There’s no point stating the high school you attended because your employers know you must have completed high school before proceeding to the university. So it’s important you state the latest degree you acquired.
However, if you don’t have any degree and didn’t attend high school, but you somehow find yourself as an IT professional (maybe a self-taught IT specialist through the internet), you can also choose the “none” on your profile. It’s important to know that most companies today don’t really care about your Education. All they need is your skill & ability to communicate and collaborate as a team with other members of their company.
-
Narrow your skills
If you have been browsing our website for a few minutes, you’d know that you actually need to fill your skills in your profile to stand a chance to get a job on MonkeyToHire. However, setting up a profile that stands out is much more than just filling your skills in your profile. You have to narrow your skills in your profile.
Let’s take a quick example.
For example, I’m a mobile app developer that writes codes in Flutter (Flutter is a programming language for building mobile applications). If I set up my profile as a mobile app developer, I’m definitely going to receive job offers from companies that need a mobile app developer that write Java or C++ codes.
Can you guess why? This is because I didn’t specify my profile as a Flutter Mobile App Developer. I didn’t choose my programming language as “Flutter”.
So the key point here is to specify what you do.
A digital marketing expert is not the same as a Facebook digital marketing expert.
Narrow your skills down.

Tell us your professional work experience
To set up a profile that stands out, you need to tell us your experience. If you’re an expert, choose the expert option and if you don’t have much experience you can choose the basic option or intermediate. Now, it’s not just enough to choose your experience level. You also have to tell us your years of experience, and this will allow potential companies to decide if you’re really an expert as you claim. An IT professional with less than a year of experience cannot claim to be an expert. This is why we encourage all IT professionals on our website to be honest.
